Napowrimo Dag 16

Die Raaisel van die Pienk Boom

Wat is jou naam?
Niemand kan my sê nie.
Ek is ook tog te blaam
as ek maar net jou blom gaan pluk
en dan in die boek kyk
dan sal ek presies weet
hoe jy lyk!

Jy het ‘n groen stam met dorings;
watte bolle in die Lente;
pienk blomme in die Herfs.

Ek het jou naam gekry!
Jou naam is Kapokboom
of “Silk Tree”.

In “The Ultimate Book of Trees & Shrubs: For South African Gardens” staan daar:

Chorisia speciosa / Floss-silk tree

“Growing rapidly to 50 ft or more with a spreading crown, this subtropical species is the one most commonly seen, grown for its striking large flowers that appear on bare branches throughout autumn. The saucer-sized, 5-petalled flowers range from rose-pink through salmon shades to burgundy, with gold or white throats. It is not grown as wildly as the beauty of its flowers would lead one to expect, perhaps because of the vicious spines on its trunk and lower branches.”
